The Living Bubba?

I can spit on my own grave, thank you...

I can spit on my own grave, thank you.

Scalped #43 is dead. Long live Scapled #43.

What an exhilarating, exhausting experience. More about it later, when I'm clear headed enough to actually express myself. In the meantime... attend Drive By Truckers live on Halloween night? Don't mind if I do.

On the edge...

Some production stuff for Scalped #43, which I'm rapidly closing in on finishing...

Woodmen of the World.

Deadlines always end like the last scene of 2001. Time & space a technicolor tunnel. You exist as both baby & old man.

Tr3s Caballeros

A riff on Donald Duck and the Tres Caballeros that I for Paolo Belfiore at NYCC (Click image to enlarge):

Tres Caballeros

One thing I learned doing this is that even though I’m pretty sure these characters are horribly racist, no one seems to care. Not even me apparently.

NYCC was a whirlwind. The show was insanely crowded, frankly a bit much to take. But everything surrounding it was amazing. Not the least of which was sitting on the 4th row of a Gorillaz concert at the Ed Sullivan theater (thanks Rico!). The show was recorded for the Letterman concert series and you can watch it and see waaaay to much me at the series' site . 4th row. Bald. Plaid. Too "cool" to dance.

Anyways, SCALPED beckons. More soon...

NYCC 2010 and BEYOOOOOND

This coming weekend I will be in attendance at New York Comic Con where I will be sharing a table/making a buddy cop movie with the one and only Shawn "Jungle Bird" Crystal (Artists Alley, table H -10). Come say hi and buy things! Daddy needs roasted street peanuts!

In other news that Postcard came out like this (graphic design work by Dustin Harbin) :

Heroes Con postcard

One thing I'm sure of, I don't rightly belong on that list of confirmed guests. Being the sweet hearts they are they threw me a bone. But YOU should totally make plans to attend. I mean look at those guests already!

Anyways, hope I see you guys at both shows.More soon...

The Larry-Bird-stache

Some news to share this post, but first art blawg:

SCALPED-VIRGIL_-DESIGN-1-low

Above are early designs for a new character who appears in SCALPED #43. Dreamt up by Jason Aaron and myself on the floor of Baltimore Comic Con over a year ago. His first name comes from The Band's "The Night the Drove Old Dixie Down". Which is one of the best Levon Helm joints ever recorded. So if there is a touch of Levon in this guy, that's why.

(Does anyone else find the notes comically redundant? I don't even know why I write half that stuff. "Big ears". No shit.)

NEW YORK COMIC CON:

I should mention that I'm attending and setting up at NYCC next weekend. A week should be fair warning to all NYC street nut vendors. And yes. "street nut vendors" is a euphemism for prostitutes. Sweet carmelized, hot lamp roasted prostitutes.

Hopefully my seating assignment will be in the program. If not I will let you all know. I'll be sitting with my buddy Shawn "Jungle Bird" Crystal. I'll have my usual stuff, doing a few con sketches and generally trying to avoid going broke. Come say hi.

NOCHE ROJA SOLICITED:

I was pleasantly surprised to see a 3 page spread for the @vertigo_comics Crime Line OGN I did with Simon Oliver in previews. Pre-order it today!
