NEW COKE?

I was talking with my non comics reading brother about the new DC relaunch, specifically the Superman stuff (of which I'm excited to see Grant Morrison's take on). His exact words: "That stuff all looks like New Coke". I dunno about DC but that's definitely what I'm selling here.

Drawn in 2007 and recolored/cleaned up today.

New Coke?

This was actually for a Superman try out that never came to be. That's probably for the best, given that at the time I would have screwed the pooch on it. I've no clue what to truly expect with all this DC re-launch stuff. All I know is that John Byrne's Man of Steel was big to me as a kid and (probably) introduced me to Mike Mignola's work.

I'm clearly more of a Batman kinda dude but Superman has definitely made an impact on me over the years. So here's hoping for the best.

More soon. ...

  1. I grew up with Byrne's blue boy scout, but that Mignola issue is hands down the best of the run.

You ever see his back up story in Action 600? Where Supes is going nuts in a cave? That was my first Mignola and it was awesome, too.

    Nice Superman, by the way.

  2. Jason,

I wouldn't have pegged you for a Supes fan. Batman definitely, but not Supes. Chalk a 'L' for pigeon-holing.

But yes, I agree with Michel Fiffe about Action 600. I'm not a Mignola fan much, but there was something about the early Mignola that I kept reading over in those issues like Action 600 and Cosmic Odyssey. But I've never read that Superman 23.

Your rendition of Supes is very good, man. And props for not drawing him like a super-model or 'roided out.
